Shorouk

Shorouk, meaning "sunrise" in Arabic, is a toponym and given name used in Arab-speaking regions. In Egypt, it is best known for Shorouk City, a large planned urban community located in the Cairo Governorate.

Shorouk City was developed in the late 20th century as part of Egypt’s New Urban Communities program overseen by the New Urban Communities Authority. It is situated in the eastern part of Greater Cairo along major transportation corridors, including the Cairo–Suez Desert Road and the Ring Road, and lies near districts such as Nasr City and Heliopolis. The city comprises residential sectors, commercial zones, educational facilities, and healthcare services, with ongoing housing and infrastructure projects to accommodate a growing population.
