Shofet
Shofet is a term derived from Hebrew, meaning judge. In ancient Israelite society, shofetim, or judges, served as leaders who dispensed justice and also often acted as military commanders. The period of the Judges, as described in the Book of Judges in the Hebrew Bible, spans from the death of Joshua to the establishment of the monarchy. During this time, Israel was not a unified kingdom but a collection of tribes. The shofetim arose to address specific crises or disputes.
