Shinawatra
Shinawatra refers to a prominent Thai political and business family. The most well-known member is Thaksin Shinawatra, a former Prime Minister of Thailand who served from 2001 to 2006. He was a telecommunications tycoon before entering politics and founded the Shin Corporation, later renamed AIS. His premiership was marked by populist policies, including universal healthcare and village fund programs, which significantly boosted his popularity but also drew criticism for alleged corruption and authoritarian tendencies. Thaksin was overthrown in a military coup in 2006 and subsequently convicted of corruption, leading him to live in self-imposed exile.
Another significant figure is Yingluck Shinawatra, Thaksin's younger sister. She served as Prime Minister of Thailand
