Sfidsat2

Sfidsat2, also known as SfiDS-2, is a small satellite developed by the Italian Space Agency (ASI) in collaboration with the Italian National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF). Launched on September 13, 2021, aboard a Vega-C rocket from the Guiana Space Centre in French Guiana, Sfidsat2 is part of the Sentinel-2 mission, which is a constellation of Earth observation satellites operated by the European Space Agency (ESA).

The primary objective of Sfidsat2 is to monitor and study the Earth's land surfaces, providing high-resolution optical imagery for various applications, including agriculture, forestry, and environmental monitoring. The satellite is equipped with a multispectral instrument that captures images in 13 spectral bands, ranging from visible to shortwave infrared, with a spatial resolution of 10 meters, 20 meters, and 60 meters.

Sfidsat2 operates in a sun-synchronous orbit at an altitude of approximately 786 kilometers, with an orbital period of about 98 minutes. The satellite's design life is expected to be at least 7 years, during which it will contribute to the continuous and systematic monitoring of the Earth's surface, providing valuable data for scientific research and operational applications.
