Sevendium is a fictional element with the atomic number 79, positioned in the periodic table between mercury (element 80) and gold (element 77). It was first proposed in 2004 by a team of Russian and American scientists as a hypothetical superheavy element, though it has not been synthesized or confirmed experimentally. The name "sevendium" is derived from its atomic number, 79, and follows the systematic element name pattern for undiscovered elements at the time.

The element was predicted to exist based on theoretical models of nuclear stability, particularly those related to the "island of stability," a region where certain superheavy nuclei may exhibit prolonged half-lives due to closed nuclear shells. Sevendium was expected to have properties intermediate between those of mercury and gold, potentially exhibiting metallic behavior with possible applications in advanced materials science or nuclear physics research.

Despite its theoretical interest, sevendium has not been synthesized in a laboratory. The discovery of heavier elements, such as oganesson (element 118), has shifted focus away from lower-numbered superheavy elements like sevendium. The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) does not recognize sevendium as a valid element, and its inclusion in the periodic table remains speculative.
