Sestoupit

Sestoupit is a Czech verb meaning to descend or to go down from a higher position to a lower one. It is formed from the verb stoupit (to rise, to go up) with the prefix se-, which signals a downward movement or departure from a higher point. As a perfective verb, sestoupit denotes a completed act of going down; its imperfective counterpart is sestupovat (also sestupávat in some forms), which describes the process or repetition of descending.

The primary sense of sestoupit is physical movement: moving from a higher place to a lower one, such as descending stairs, a slope, a hill, or into a basement. It is also used in figurative language to indicate a decline or removal from a higher status, for example in political or organizational contexts: a leader may sestoupit z postu (step down from a position).

Grammatical notes: sestoupit is a perfective verb and is commonly contrasted with the imperfective sestupovat, which covers ongoing or repeated descent. In past tense, the forms appear as sestoupil (masc.), sestoupila (fem.), sestoupilo (neuter).
