Sestha
Sestha, also known as Sestha Devi, is a revered goddess in Hindu mythology, particularly worshipped in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. She is often depicted as a fierce and protective deity, associated with the planet Saturn (Shani) and the element of water. Sestha is believed to be the daughter of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, and is considered to be one of the Navadurga, the nine forms of the goddess Durga. Her name is derived from the Sanskrit word "sasti," meaning "six," as she is said to have six faces, each representing a different aspect of the goddess. These faces are associated with the six directions, the six senses, and the six stages of life. Sestha is also known as the goddess of wisdom, knowledge, and protection, and is often invoked for the removal of obstacles and the attainment of success. Her worship is particularly prominent during the Tamil month of Thai, which is considered to be her sacred month. Temples dedicated to Sestha can be found throughout Tamil Nadu, with the most famous being the Sestha Samudra Temple in Kumbakonam, which is believed to have been built by the Chola dynasty. The goddess is also associated with the river Kaveri, which is considered to be her sacred river. Sestha is worshipped through various rituals and prayers, and her devotees believe that she grants boons and protection to those who seek her blessings. Her image is often depicted with a trident, a lotus, and a serpent, symbolizing her power, purity, and divine connection.
