Serviceregistraties, in the context of software development and IT infrastructure, refers to the practice of registering and maintaining information about available services within a system. This is particularly relevant in distributed systems and microservices architectures where multiple independent services need to discover and communicate with each other.

A service registry acts as a central directory where services can announce their presence, their network location (like IP address and port), and the functionalities they offer. When a service starts up, it registers itself with the registry. Other services, or clients, can then query the registry to find the network addresses of services they need to interact with.

This dynamic registration and discovery process is crucial for maintaining the resilience and scalability of modern applications. If a service instance fails, it can be deregistered, and new instances can register themselves as they become available. This allows the system to adapt to changes without manual reconfiguration.

Common implementations of service registries include tools like Consul, etcd, and ZooKeeper. These systems often provide additional features such as health checking of registered services, allowing them to automatically remove unhealthy instances. The use of a service registry simplifies service-to-service communication, reduces coupling, and enables fault tolerance.
