Sermersooq

Sermersooq is a municipality in Greenland. It was established on 1 January 2009 as part of the Greenlandic municipal reform that merged 18 municipalities into four. It is the largest municipality in Greenland by both area and population. The administrative center is Nuuk, which is also the capital of Greenland.

Geography: The municipality stretches along both the western and eastern coasts of Greenland, encompassing coastal towns and many settlements, as well as extensive inland areas. Its landscape includes fjords, Arctic mountains, and tundra, with a climate that varies from coastal to high Arctic.

Administration: Sermersooq is governed by a municipal council elected for four years. The council oversees local services such as education and healthcare, infrastructure, housing, utilities, and planning for culture and environment.

Demographics and economy: The municipality contains a substantial share of Greenland's residents, led by Nuuk. The economy is dominated by public administration and services, with fisheries, construction, and tourism contributing to regional activity.
