Sepultura is a Brazilian heavy metal band formed in 1984 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The band's original lineup consisted of three brothers: Wagner Lima Vieira (Riff), Paulo Jr. (bass), and Igor Cavalera (drums), with Max Cavalera (guitar) who would later become a key figure in the band's development. The trio's unique blend of genres, such as thrash metal, death metal, and Brazilian cultural elements, was an influential force in shaping the sound of extreme metal in the late 1980s.

The band released their self-titled debut album in 1985, which laid the groundwork for their future success.

After Max Cavalera parted ways with the band in 1996, Sepultura underwent several lineup changes and continued
