Sensoritieto

Sensoritieto refers to data produced by sensors that measure physical quantities or events. It is a central element in sensing systems, Internet of Things (IoT), industrial automation, and environmental monitoring. Sensoritieto can be raw measurements or processed values and may include multiple channels from one or several sensors.

Each measurement typically comprises a value, a timestamp, the sensor identity, and units, as well as metadata such as location, calibration status, and sensor accuracy. Data can be digital or analog converted to digital form, and may be streamed in real time or stored for later analysis.

Common sensor types include temperature, humidity, pressure, acceleration, vibration, light, sound, gas concentration, and image or lidar data. Data collection architectures range from edge devices and gateways to cloud platforms, with transmission protocols such as MQTT, CoAP, or HTTP and formats like JSON, XML, or CSV. Data quality is a major concern and involves noise, drift, missing samples, synchronization, and calibration.

Processing steps include filtering and smoothing, normalization, alignment of timestamps, and sensor fusion to produce more reliable situational information. Applications span smart cities, industrial predictive maintenance, environmental monitoring, agriculture, healthcare wearables, and autonomous systems.

Security and privacy considerations are important: data integrity, authenticity, and access control are essential to prevent tampering or spoofing. Standards and ontologies such as SensorML or IEEE 1451 aid interoperability by describing sensors, measurements, and metadata.
