Senatorer

Senatorer are members of a deliberative assembly, most commonly a legislative body. The term originates from ancient Rome, where senators were members of the Senate, the governing council of the Roman Republic and later the Roman Empire. In modern political systems, senators typically serve in an upper house of a bicameral legislature. These upper houses often have different functions and responsibilities than the lower house, such as providing a check on the power of the popularly elected chamber or representing states or regions more directly.

The specific powers and responsibilities of senators vary greatly by country. In some systems, they may have the power to amend or reject legislation passed by the lower house, while in others, their role may be more advisory. The method of selection also differs; senators can be elected by popular vote, appointed by a government or head of state, or chosen through other mechanisms.
