Selkäydinstimulaatio, also known as spinal cord stimulation (SCS), is a medical treatment that uses electrical impulses to alter the nerve activity in the spinal cord. This alteration can interrupt or mask pain signals that are being sent to the brain, thereby reducing the sensation of pain. SCS is typically used to manage chronic pain that has not responded to other treatments.

The device used for SCS consists of a pulse generator, which is usually implanted in the abdomen or buttock, and electrodes, which are placed in the epidural space along the spinal cord. Wires connect the electrodes to the pulse generator. The pulse generator is programmed to deliver specific electrical impulses at a set frequency and intensity.
