Selectat

Selectat is a Romanian adjective and the past participle of the verb a selecta (to select). It indicates that something has been chosen or singled out from a larger set. In agreement with the noun it modifies, masculine singular is selectat, feminine singular is selectată, masculine plural is selectați, and feminine plural is selectate.

It is commonly used to describe items or groups that have been chosen, for example: un grup selectat (a selected group), produse selectate (selected products), candidați selectați (selected candidates). As a past participle, it also forms the passive voice with the auxiliary a fi: a fost selectat (he was selected), au fost selectați (they were selected). In compound tenses it can function as a participial modifier, as in candidați selectați pentru interviu.

Etymology: selectat derives from Latin selectatus, from seligere, meaning to select. The form entered Romanian via the normal path of Romance borrowings, parallel to cognates in other languages such as English “selected.”

Usage notes: selectat tends to appear in formal or technical contexts—recruitment, data filtering, academic or award selections—where a subset is distinguished from a larger set. In everyday speech, other adjectives like ales or desemnat may be used, but selectat emphasizes the act of selection from a broader pool.
