Sejtosztódásának

Sejtosztódásának, or cell division, is a fundamental biological process by which a parent cell divides into two or more daughter cells. This process is essential for growth, repair, and reproduction in all living organisms. There are two main types of cell division: mitosis and meiosis.

Mitosis is a type of cell division that results in two daughter cells each having the same number and kind of chromosomes as the parent nucleus, typical of ordinary tissue growth. This process is crucial for asexual reproduction and for the development and maintenance of multicellular organisms. It involves a series of stages: prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase, where the genetic material is duplicated and then evenly distributed between the two new cells.

Meiosis, on the other hand, is a specialized type of cell division that reduces the chromosome number by half, creating four genetically distinct daughter cells, each with half the number of chromosomes of the parent cell. This process is essential for sexual reproduction, as it produces gametes (sperm and egg cells). Meiosis involves two rounds of division, Meiosis I and Meiosis II, which further increase genetic diversity through processes like crossing over.

The regulation of cell division is tightly controlled by a complex network of proteins and signaling pathways. Errors in this regulation can lead to uncontrolled cell growth, a hallmark of cancer. Understanding cell division is therefore critical for comprehending development, heredity, and disease.
