Sejtméretnek, meaning "cell size" in Hungarian, refers to the physical dimensions of a biological cell. This fundamental characteristic varies greatly depending on the cell type and its function within an organism. For instance, bacterial cells are typically microscopic, ranging from 0.5 to 5 micrometers in diameter, while human cells exhibit a broader spectrum. Neurons, with their extended axons, can be meters long but are extremely thin, whereas a typical human cell might be around 10 to 100 micrometers.

The size of a cell is constrained by several factors, most notably the surface area-to-volume ratio. As a cell grows, its volume increases at a faster rate than its surface area. This poses a challenge for nutrient uptake and waste removal, as these processes rely on the cell membrane's surface. Consequently, most cells maintain a relatively small size to ensure efficient transport across the membrane. Organelles within the cell also contribute to its overall size and complexity. Specialized cells, such as oocytes (egg cells) in many species, can be exceptionally large, visible to the naked eye, due to the stored nutrients required for early embryonic development.
