Seguvedelike

Seguvedelike is an Estonian term used in metallurgy to denote a liquid alloy, a homogeneous liquid that forms when an alloy is melted. The word combines segu (alloy) and vedelike (liquid). In practice, seguvedelike refers to any molten metal or metal-containing liquid produced by heating an alloy above its melting point. These liquids are encountered during casting, soldering, and refining, as well as in alloy production processes where components are combined in molten form.

Properties of seguvedelike substances depend on temperature and composition and include viscosity, density, surface tension, melting point, and chemical reactivity with container materials. Handling requires high-temperature equipment, such as furnaces, crucibles, and ladles, and safety measures to manage burns, fumes, and oxidation.

Common examples include tin–lead solder in its molten state and molten bronze or aluminum alloys during casting. The behavior of molten alloys is influenced by alloying elements, temperature gradients, and containment geometry, which affect pouring, filling of molds, and solidification patterns.

In related terminology, molten metal or molten alloy are used in English-language texts to describe similar states, and the concept is central to metallurgical processes like casting, refining, and alloying. The term seguvedelike thus occupies a specialized but broadly understood niche in Estonian technical language.
