Segmendidelike

Segmendidelike is a term used in genetics to describe a pattern of inheritance in which phenotypic traits are associated with discrete genomic segments and transmitted in a Mendelian-like fashion according to the segment, rather than the whole gene or chromosome. The word blends segment and Mendelian, and it is not a widely standardized term.

In segmendidelike inheritance, a defined genomic segment acts as a heritable unit. The segment’s presence, absence, or copy number can correlate with a phenotype, and its segregation into gametes tends to reflect Mendel-like patterns at the segment level, even when other parts of the genome vary.
