Seeriaühendus

Seeriaühendus, often translated as series connection, describes a configuration where electrical components are connected end-to-end, forming a single path for current to flow. In such a circuit, the same current passes through each component sequentially. If any part of the series circuit is broken, the entire circuit ceases to function as the current flow is interrupted.

The voltage in a series circuit is divided among the components. The total voltage supplied by the source is equal to the sum of the voltage drops across each individual component. Similarly, the total resistance of a series circuit is the sum of the resistances of all the individual components. This means that adding more resistors in series increases the overall resistance of the circuit.

Common examples of series connections include old-style Christmas lights, where if one bulb burns out, the entire string goes dark. Another example is a simple flashlight, where the batteries, switch, and bulb are typically arranged in series to form a complete circuit when the switch is closed. Understanding series connections is fundamental in electrical engineering and basic electronics for designing and troubleshooting circuits.
