Sedimenttijärjestelmän, a Finnish term, translates to "sedimentary system." In Earth sciences, a sedimentary system refers to the complete set of geological, physical, chemical, and biological processes that lead to the formation, transport, deposition, and preservation of sediments. These systems are dynamic and operate over various spatial and temporal scales, from small river channels to vast ocean basins, and from a few years to millions of years.

Key components of a sedimentary system include the source area where sediments originate, the transport mechanism (such as water, wind, or ice), the depositional environment where sediments accumulate, and the preservation processes that protect them from erosion or alteration.
