Secwepemctsín

Secwepemctsín, also known as Shuswap, is an Interior Salish language spoken by the Secwépemc people in British Columbia, Canada. It is part of the Salishan language family, which is indigenous to the Pacific Northwest. Secwepemctsín is polysynthetic, meaning words are often formed by combining multiple morphemes to express complex ideas that might require whole phrases or sentences in English. The language has a rich system of verb morphology and a relatively simple phonological system compared to some other Indigenous languages.

Historically, Secwepemctsín was the primary language of communication across a vast territory, facilitating trade and cultural exchange among Secwépemc communities.
