Secondarily

Secondarily is an adverb that describes something done in a secondary or subordinate way, or considered after the primary item in order of importance, sequence, or purpose. It signals that a feature, effect, or consideration is not the main focus but accompanies or follows the primary element.

In writing and analysis, secondarily often contrasts with primarily. For example: "The program is funded primarily by grants, secondarily by corporate sponsorship." It can also describe sequence, as in "The updates address issues secondarily to the main topic."

In philosophy and science, secondarily may describe secondary qualities or secondary effects. In research reporting, it can refer to secondary outcomes or analyses, distinct from the primary endpoint or hypothesis.

Etymology: the word derives from Latin secundarius "following, next," from secundus "following." In English, secondarily has been used since Early Modern English to mark a lesser or later degree of emphasis.
