Sciuroides

Sciuroides is a genus of extinct rodents that lived during the Oligocene epoch. These animals are known from fossil remains found in North America. The name "sciuroides" suggests a resemblance to modern squirrels, and indeed, they are believed to be early relatives of the squirrel lineage, part of the broader Sciuroidea superfamily.

Fossil evidence indicates that Sciuroides possessed adaptations for a terrestrial or possibly semi-arboreal lifestyle. Their teeth show characteristics typical of herbivores, likely feeding on seeds, nuts, and vegetation available in their environment. The exact size and appearance are difficult to determine definitively from fragmentary fossils, but they are generally considered to have been small to medium-sized rodents.
