Schöffengrund

Schöffengrund is a municipality in the district of Lahn-Dill, in Hesse, Germany. It is located in the eastern part of the district, approximately 15 kilometers south of Wetzlar and 25 kilometers northwest of Giessen. The municipality was formed in 1970 through the merger of several formerly independent villages. Its name is derived from "Schöffen," referring to lay judges in medieval Germanic law, and "Grund," meaning valley or ground, reflecting its historical significance and geographical location.

The municipality is comprised of several districts, each with its own distinct character and history. These include Altenschlirf, Bischoffen, Cleeberg, Ebersgöns, Niederquembach, Oberquembach, Schwalbach, and Thomashaus. The area is characterized by rolling hills, forests, and agricultural land, typical of the Wetterau region. The Dill river, a tributary of the Lahn, flows through parts of the municipality.

Schöffengrund offers a mix of rural charm and local amenities. It is a residential area for many who commute to nearby larger towns and cities. The municipality has a number of historical buildings, including churches and former manor houses, which bear witness to its long history.
