Schächteöfen
Schächteöfen are a class of vertical metallurgical furnaces used for processing ores and producing metals. The defining feature of these furnaces is a vertical shaft in which the burden (the ore, flux, and reductants) moves downward by gravity, while the reacting gases or hot combustion gases pass upward through the charge. This arrangement allows intensive gas–solid contact and efficient heat transfer in a compact reactor.
Construction and operation typically involve a refractory-lined shaft with a top charging opening and a bottom
Applications and variants vary with ore type and desired product. Schächteöfen have been used for processing
Compared with more modern continuous furnaces, shaft furnaces typically have lower throughput and require careful control
