Schutzanstrich, plural Schutzanstriche, denotes a protective coating applied to a surface to prevent damage from corrosion, weathering, chemicals, or wear, while sometimes providing color and gloss. The term is common in construction, industry, and maintenance of buildings, bridges, ships, and machinery. A Schutzanstrich is usually a multi-layer system consisting of a primer, one or more intermediate coats, and a topcoat.
