Scavengerpompen, often referred to as scavenger pumps, are a type of lubrication pump used in various mechanical systems, particularly in engines and transmissions. Their primary function is to remove residual oil or lubricant from low-lying areas of a sump or reservoir. These areas might be difficult for a main pressure pump to reach effectively, especially during operation when the fluid level fluctuates or the system is tilted.

The design of a scavenger pump typically involves a lower flow rate and pressure compared to a main oil pump. It is often positioned in the sump to draw oil from the bottom, preventing the accumulation of stagnant fluid. This collected oil is then usually returned to the main oil reservoir or sump, allowing the main pump to pick it up and distribute it for lubrication.

In some applications, such as dry-sump lubrication systems, scavenger pumps play a crucial role. In these systems, the engine oil is collected from the sump and returned to a separate tank. Multiple scavenger pumps may be employed in complex dry-sump configurations to efficiently manage oil flow and ensure adequate lubrication under various operating conditions.

The use of scavenger pumps helps to maintain optimal oil levels, prevent cavitation in the main pump, and ensure consistent lubrication throughout the system, thereby contributing to the longevity and performance of the machinery.
