It is not a widely recognized term in anatomy textbooks or medical literature.

Etymology and usage: The word combines scapulae (plural of scapula) with provide, reflecting the scapulae’s role in furnishing surfaces and interfaces for muscles, joints, and movement. When used, scapulaeprovide tends to emphasize the scapulae’s contribution to shoulder mechanics and stability rather than naming a specific anatomical entity.

Anatomy and function: Each scapula is a flat, triangular bone located on the posterior thorax. It features the spine, acromion, coracoid process, glenoid cavity, and fossae (supraspinous, infraspinous, subscapular). It articulates with the clavicle at the acromioclavicular joint and with the humerus at the glenohumeral joint. The scapula provides attachment points for muscles such as the rotator cuff group, deltoid, trapezius, serratus anterior, rhomboids, and pectoralis minor. It also participates in scapulohumeral rhythm, coordinating shoulder girdle movement with arm motion and contributing to overall shoulder stability and mobility.
