Satelliitivastuvõtt refers to the reception of signals broadcast from artificial satellites. This technology is most commonly associated with television broadcasting, where satellite dishes are used to receive channels transmitted from geostationary satellites. These satellites orbit the Earth at an altitude of approximately 35,786 kilometers, allowing them to remain stationary over a fixed point on the Earth's surface. This fixed position enables continuous coverage of a large geographical area.

The process involves a satellite dish, which is a parabolic reflector that focuses the weak satellite signals onto a low-noise block downconverter (LNB). The LNB amplifies these signals and converts them to a lower frequency range, which can then be transmitted through a coaxial cable to a satellite receiver. The receiver decodes the digital signal and converts it into audio and video that can be displayed on a television.

Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers, for instance, detect signals from navigation satellites to determine a user's precise location.
