Sateenkaarta

Sateenkaarta is a Finnish word that translates to "rainbow" in English. It refers to the meteorological phenomenon that appears as a multicolored arc in the sky, caused by reflection, refraction, and dispersion of light in water droplets. This results in a spectrum of light appearing in the sky. The colors of the rainbow typically appear in the order of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.

Rainbows are most commonly seen when rain is falling in one part of the sky and the sun is shining in another. The observer must be positioned between the sun and the rain for the phenomenon to be visible. The arc shape is due to the observer's perspective; all raindrops are reflecting the light at the same angle relative to the observer's eye, forming a cone of light that intersects the sky as an arc.

In Finnish culture, as in many others, the rainbow holds symbolic meaning. It is often associated with hope, good fortune, and beauty. Folktales and mythology sometimes feature rainbows as bridges to other realms or as divine signs.
