Saptamalar

Saptamalar is a term originating from Sanskrit, often translated as "seven journeys" or "seven steps." In Hindu culture, it is most famously associated with the Saptapadi ceremony, a pivotal ritual in traditional Indian weddings. This ceremony involves the bride and groom walking seven steps together around a sacred fire, with each step representing a vow or promise for their married life. These vows typically encompass aspects such as nourishment, strength, prosperity, happiness, progeny, health, and lifelong companionship and understanding. The Saptapadi is considered so significant that in many Hindu traditions, the marriage is legally and spiritually considered complete only after its conclusion. The number seven itself holds considerable symbolic importance in Hinduism, often representing completeness, auspiciousness, and cosmic order.
