Samtímar

Samtímar is a traditional Icelandic system of timekeeping that has been in use since the late 19th century. It is based on the solar year and is divided into 12 months, each with a specific name and length. The months are not of equal length, with some months being longer than others. The system is unique to Iceland and is not used in any other country.

6. Hvítamánuður - June (30 days)

7. Ármánuður - July (31 days)

8. Heiðmánuður - August (31 days)

9. Föstumánuður - September (30 days)

10. Eimánuður - October (31 days)

11. Hringmánuður - November (30 days)

12. Jólmánuður - December (31 days)

Samtímar is used in Iceland for various purposes, including farming, fishing, and traditional celebrations. It is also used in some schools and by some individuals as a way to connect with Iceland's cultural heritage. However, the Gregorian calendar is the official calendar used in Iceland and is widely used in everyday life. Samtímar is considered a folk calendar and is not used for legal or administrative purposes.
