The Salchow is a figure skating jump that involves taking off from the back inside edge of one foot and landing on the back outside edge of the opposite foot. It is one of the six standard figure skating jumps. The jump is named after the Swedish figure skater Ulrich Salchow, who first performed it in competition in 1909.

To execute a Salchow, a skater glides backward on a curved path. As they approach the takeoff point, they extend their free leg forward and slightly across their body, using the toe pick of their skating foot to assist in the launch. The skater then rotates in the air, typically for one and a half rotations for a single Salchow, two and a half for a double, and three and a half for a triple. The landing is made on the back outside edge of the opposite foot, with the free leg extended back for balance.

The Salchow is often considered one of the more accessible jumps to learn due to its forward-to-backward takeoff. However, achieving clean rotations and a stable landing requires significant practice and technique. It is a foundational jump in figure skating and is included in the repertoire of skaters at all competitive levels. Variations of the Salchow include the "twisting Salchow," where the skater adds an extra twist in the air, and "combination Salchows," where it is linked with other jumps.
