He is traditionally believed to have been born around 607 AD in the region of Austrasia, part of present-day France. Wandrille is renowned for founding the Abbey of Fontenelle, located near Saint-Wandrille-Rancon in Normandy, which became an influential monastic center during the early medieval period.
