Saint Victor is a name shared by several Christian saints, the most prominent of whom is Saint Victor of Marseilles. He was a Roman soldier who became a martyr in the late 3rd or early 4th century. According to tradition, Victor was a centurion in the Roman army who refused to participate in the persecution of Christians. For his defiance, he was tortured and eventually executed in Marseilles, France. He is venerated as a patron saint of soldiers and watermen.
