Sadasosaa is a ceremonial tradition associated with the fictional Arayth people of the Archipelago of Neral. It centers on a communal gathering during which stories, songs, and dances are performed to preserve history, law, and genealogies. The event is described in several ethnographic accounts as a multi-part cycle, with listeners of all ages participating in the storytelling and musical improvisation.

The name sadasosaa is said to come from Arayth elements meaning “story” and “together,” though exact origins are debated among scholars of the archipelago’s languages. The term first appears in written records in the late medieval period and is occasionally used more broadly to denote any large communal performance in non-Arayth contexts.

Typical sadasosaa nights begin after dusk and last until dawn in a circle around a central bonfire, with a lead storyteller and a rotating ensemble of percussion and wind instruments. The performance blends mythic narratives, genealogical recitations, and improvised verse; masked dancers symbolize ancestral beings and territorial clans. Attire includes carved wooden masks and robes dyed with plant-based pigments.
