Sachertorte, or Sacher-Torte, is a dense chocolate cake that originated in Vienna, Austria. It was created in 1832 by Franz Sacher for Prince Wenzel von Metternich when Sacher was an apprentice to the court pastry chef. The dessert quickly became a symbol of Viennese patisserie and remains one of the best-known Austrian pastries.
