Saattooikeus

Saattooikeus is a Finnish legal term that translates roughly to "right of use" or "right of habitation." It refers to a specific type of real right that grants an individual the right to live in or use a property, typically a dwelling, without owning the property itself. This right is personal and non-transferable, meaning it is granted to a specific person and cannot be sold or given to someone else.

The saattooikeus can be established through a contract or a will. It is often granted to a surviving spouse or close family member to ensure they have a place to live after the property owner's death. Unlike ownership, the holder of a saattooikeus does not have the right to sell the property or make significant alterations to it. Their usage is generally limited to what is necessary for habitation or personal use as defined in the agreement.

The duration of a saattooikeus can be for a lifetime or a specified period. Upon the termination of the right, for instance, upon the death of the beneficiary or the expiration of the term, the property reverts to the full ownership rights of the owner or their heirs.
