STPtilien

STPtilien is a fictional taxon used in speculative fiction and worldbuilding to denote a family of phototrophic, crystalline life forms described in several in-universe studies. The name combines an in-world acronym STP with the suffix -tilien, a common convention for naming life-forms.

Biology and ecology: STPtilien are small, colonial organisms with a lattice-like exoskeleton of mineral-like material. They use light-harvesting pigments to drive a metabolism that relies on inorganic substrates rather than organic carbon. Colonies form branching networks in subglacial channels and mineral veins, where they exchange energy and nutrients through light-gated processes.
