SOUTHCOM is the United States Southern Command, one of the eleven unified combatant commands of the United States Department of Defense. It is responsible for providing security cooperation and joint operations in the Caribbean, Central America, and South America. The command's headquarters is located at Doral, Florida. Its primary mission is to foster regional security and stability by engaging with partner nations through various programs and initiatives. These efforts include counter-narcotics operations, disaster relief, humanitarian assistance, and professional military education. SOUTHCOM works closely with civilian and military leaders in the region to address shared security challenges. Its area of responsibility encompasses 31 countries and 16 dependencies and areas of special sovereignty, covering an area of 4.4 million square miles. The command's activities aim to promote democratic values, enhance military-to-military relationships, and counter transnational threats that could affect U.S. interests and the security of the Western Hemisphere.
