SOStilan

SOStilan is a synthetic polymer engineered for high thermal stability, mechanical strength, and chemical resistance. It is used in aerospace, electronics, and protective coatings where demanding operating conditions are common.

Developed by SolisTech Materials in the early 2010s, SOStilan was introduced to the market with emphasis on dimensional stability and flame retardancy.

SOStilan is a crosslinked thermoset composed of aromatic bisphenol-derived units linked by sulfonated silane crosslinks. It is produced by condensation polymerization and cured at elevated temperature, creating a rigid network with low creep.

Typical properties include a glass transition temperature around 260 C, high tensile strength, low moisture uptake, and a dielectric constant around 3.5 at 1 MHz.

Applications cover structural components in aircraft and spacecraft, protective coatings for turbines and engines, and advanced electronics packaging requiring stable dielectrics.

SOStilan is handled as a hazardous polymer during manufacture but stabilized for processing. It is not readily recyclable due to its crosslinked structure, though recycling approaches using mechanical reclamation or chemical depolymerization are under study.
