SCP-0491 is a humanoid anomalous entity contained by the SCP Foundation. It is currently classified as Euclid.

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-0491 is to be housed in a standard humanoid containment cell at Site-XX, with access restricted to approved personnel. The cell is furnished to resemble an antique apothecary to minimize agitation. A two-person security detail must accompany anyone entering the cell. Direct physical contact with SCP-0491 is prohibited unless explicitly authorized by Level 4 personnel. Requests from SCP-0491 to perform “treatments” must be refused; if it insists, procedures may be allowed under strict observation and with medical countermeasures prepared. All interactions and any outcomes of SCP-0491-initiated procedures are to be logged and reviewed by senior staff.

Description: SCP-0491 appears as a tall, slender humanoid of average adult height wearing a plague doctor’s outfit consistent with late 15th to 17th-century Europe. It is fluent in multiple languages, often addressing observers as “doctor” or “patient.” SCP-0491 claims it is centuries old and possesses a specialized knowledge of disease and bodily ailment. When a living subject (designated SCP-0491-1) is in proximity, SCP-0491 can perform a surgical-like procedure, described by SCP-0491 as a cure for disease. The outcome is highly variable: most subjects perish during or after the procedure, but a minority undergo significant tissue reorganization and may become mobile, though usually nonfunctional by normal human standards. The exact mechanism remains unknown. SCP-0491 exhibits a calm, methodical demeanor and shows genuine concern for alleviating suffering, but it remains wholly dedicated to its self-professed mission of eradicating disease, regardless of human cost.

Addendum: Interview and incident logs indicate SCP-0491 views itself as humanity’s physician against pestilence. No safe method to halt its procedures without lethal force has been identified.
