Séismes
Séismes, also known as earthquakes, are natural phenomena characterized by the sudden shaking of the Earth's surface. This shaking occurs as a result of the abrupt release of energy in the Earth's lithosphere, typically caused by the movement of tectonic plates. These plates, vast sections of the Earth's crust and upper mantle, are in constant, slow motion. When stress builds up along fault lines, which are fractures in the Earth's crust where these plates meet, it can eventually exceed the strength of the rocks, leading to a rupture. This rupture generates seismic waves that travel outwards from the point of origin, known as the hypocenter, and reach the surface at the epicenter.
The intensity of a séisme is measured using seismographs, which record the ground motion. Various scales exist
