Sähkökenttäjännitettä, often translated as electric field strength or electric potential gradient, is a fundamental concept in electromagnetism. It quantifies the force experienced by a unit positive charge placed at a particular point in an electric field. It is a vector quantity, meaning it has both magnitude and direction. The direction of the electric field strength is the direction in which a positive charge would be pushed. Its SI unit is volts per meter (V/m).

The electric field strength is directly related to the electric potential difference between two points. Specifically, it represents how rapidly the electric potential changes with distance. In regions where the electric potential changes quickly, the electric field strength is high. Conversely, in regions where the potential is nearly constant, the electric field strength is low. Mathematically, the electric field strength E can be expressed as the negative gradient of the electric potential V, denoted as E = -∇V.
