RückwärtsRollCoating, also known as reverse roll coating, is an industrial coating process used to apply a thin, uniform layer of liquid onto a substrate. In this method, a rotating roller, often referred to as the applicator roller, picks up a precisely controlled amount of coating material from a reservoir. This coated roller then transfers the material to another rotating roller, the backing roller, which holds the substrate. The key characteristic of this process is that the applicator roller rotates in the opposite direction to the substrate's movement, hence the name "Rückwärts" or reverse.

This counter-rotation allows for a very precise metering of the coating thickness. The gap between the applicator roller and the backing roller, along with their respective rotational speeds and the viscosity of the coating material, determines the final film thickness. This technique is particularly effective for applying thin and uniform coatings of high-viscosity materials or when precise control over the coating weight is critical.
