Røstlandet
Røstlandet is the largest island in the Røst archipelago, located in Nordland county, Norway. It forms the core of the municipality of Røst. The island is characterized by its flat topography, low elevation, and a coastline heavily influenced by the sea. Historically and economically, Røstlandet has been deeply connected to fishing, particularly cod fishing, which has shaped its settlement patterns and cultural identity. The settlement on Røstlandet is concentrated in the village of Røst, which serves as the administrative and commercial center of the municipality. The island's landscape is dotted with numerous lakes and marshes, and it supports a rich birdlife, making it a significant area for ornithological research and tourism. Its remote location, situated far out in the Norwegian Sea, contributes to its unique environment and the resilience of its inhabitants. The weather on Røstlandet is often harsh, with strong winds and heavy rainfall being common, but the Gulf Stream moderates the climate to some extent. Røstlandet is accessible by ferry and air, with a small airport serving the island.
