Röstbiometrisystem, also known as voice biometrics or speaker recognition, refers to a technology that identifies or verifies an individual based on their unique voice characteristics. Unlike speech recognition, which focuses on what is being said, voice biometrics analyzes the distinctive features of a person's voice, such as pitch, tone, cadence, and the physical attributes of their vocal tract. These characteristics are considered unique to each individual, making them a form of biometric identification.

The process typically involves two main phases: enrollment and verification/identification. During enrollment, a user's voice is recorded, and a unique voiceprint, a digital representation of their vocal characteristics, is created and stored. This voiceprint is not a recording of the speech itself but a set of mathematical parameters derived from the acoustic properties of the voice.

In the verification phase, a user provides their voice again, and the system compares this new recording to their stored voiceprint to confirm their identity. This is a one-to-one comparison. In the identification phase, the system compares the submitted voiceprint against a database of multiple voiceprints to determine who the speaker is. This is a one-to-many comparison.

Röstbiometrisystem finds applications in various fields, including security for access control, financial transactions, customer service authentication, and fraud prevention. Its advantages include its non-intrusive nature, as users do not need to carry physical tokens or remember complex passwords. However, factors such as background noise, illness affecting the voice, and the need for good quality recordings can impact its accuracy.
