Röntgenastronomiska is a Swedish term that translates to "X-ray astronomy" in English. It refers to the branch of astronomy that studies celestial objects by observing the X-ray radiation they emit. X-rays are a form of electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths shorter than ultraviolet light and longer than gamma rays. Because Earth's atmosphere absorbs most X-rays, X-ray astronomy observations are primarily conducted using space-based telescopes and satellites.

Celestial objects that are hot and energetic are strong emitters of X-rays.
