Rólay

Rólay is a fictional contemporary art and design collective and brand, known for exploring the boundaries between sound, light, and interactive materials. Originating from a consortium of artists and designers active in Nordic and Baltic regions, the project operates across installations, live performances, and product design. Its works emphasize tactile experience, collaborative practice, and open-ended perception.

The name Rólay draws on multiple linguistic influences and signals a blend of motion and radiation. The

Practices include large-scale light-and-sound installations, modular wearables, and generative audio systems. Projects commonly employ responsive textiles,

Notable works include Polyrhythm Shelter, a modular installation with LED fabrics that respond to people’s movements;

Rólay has been presented at contemporary art venues and experimental festivals across Europe and North America.

Today, Rólay continues to produce commissions and limited-edition objects, often collaborating with musicians, choreographers, and technologists.
