Rättfuktighet is a Swedish term that translates to "righteous moisture" or "proper dampness." It refers to a state of optimal humidity and moisture content within a given context, often applied to materials, environments, or even biological processes. The concept emphasizes that while too little moisture can be detrimental, leading to dryness, brittleness, or desiccation, too much moisture can also cause problems such as rot, mold growth, or structural damage. Rättfuktighet, therefore, signifies a balance point where moisture levels are conducive to preservation, functionality, or health.

In construction and building materials, achieving rättfuktighet is crucial for longevity and preventing degradation. For example, wood needs a certain level of moisture to remain pliable and avoid cracking, but excessive dampness can lead to fungal growth and decay. Similarly, in agriculture, plants require adequate soil moisture for growth, but waterlogging can suffocate roots and promote disease. The term can also be used metaphorically to describe a situation that is just right, not too extreme in either direction.
